    Does plaquenil reduce rheumatoid arthritis

I know I had never heard of it until my rheumatologist said that is what I have...along w/osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. My blood tests are negative for RF but my CRP test was above normal. Ai Yi Yi Plaquenil reduces inflammation in many Rheumatic disorders, the mode of action is pretty complicated though so I shan't bore you with all the details, but basically it prevents your dendritic cells (these are messengers for your immune system, if you will) from interacting with your T-Cells (a special type of white blood cell which through a convoluted and boring process, causes inflammation when an infection is found, and these basically malfunction with inflammatory disorders). So, he started me on 400 mg of Plaquenil a day and he just upped it to 600 mg a day. As I said previously, my Rheumatologist now says it is inflammatory osteoarthrits. Why am I taking Plaquenil, which does help tremedously BTW, if I don't have RA or Lupus. This "dendritic deactivation" (I made that phrase up) helps reduce your immune system being silly and inflaming your joints.

According to the American College of Rheumatology, hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil, is a “disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD,” meaning that it helps reduce the pain and swelling that come with arthritis. It can also reduce the incidence of joint damage, thus lessening the risk of developing a long-term disability from complications of RA. Today, Plaquenil and other antimalarials are also used to treat and help prevent symptoms caused by certain autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis RA, systemic lupus erythematosus, and discoid lupus, even though these diseases are not caused by malaria parasites. Plaquenil belongs in a class of medications known as disease-modifying. Plaquenil and its affect on the immune system. ddweedee 01/31/2016. I am so confused and in so much pain. My Rheumy started me on Plaquenil 200 mg 1 x day a few months back. After a few weeks I started to feel some pain/joint relief and more energy. Now I just have a few good days versus bad days a week.

My sister was dx'd with Inflammatory Arthritis and Plaquenil sent her into remission some years ago now. I also take meds for high bp, asthma and high cholesterol.

Rheumatoid arthritis; discoid and systemic lupus erythematosus SLE. Over the long term hydroxychloroquine can reduce pain, swelling and joint stiffness. If you have lupus, it may also improve the rash. It may be as long as 12 weeks before you notice the benefits. Hydroxychloroquine is often taken in combination with other drugs such as methotrexate. While in some cases, lower doses of NSAIDS are effective, in rheumatoid arthritis and other forms of inflammatory arthritis a higher dose is often required to decrease inflammation. A lower dosage can initially be used if inflammation is mild, if mechanical pain is the major problem, if the patient is elderly or if the patient suffers from conditions that increase the risk for toxicity see below. Also called Plaquenil, hydroxychloroquine is a disease-modifying drug that can help decrease both the swelling and pain of rheumatoid arthritis. According to Rheumatology.org, there is not a clear reason why hydroxychloroquine is so effective in treating autoimmune diseases.

Is it ok to take co-codamol and Hydroxychloroquine 200mg. Hydroxychloroquine, diclofenac and paracetamol together are fine. I guess you have RA or psoriatic arthritis, in which case I would onsider adding tramadol for additional pain relief. Sources GP.
