The usage of the drug says it is to suppress the immune system in the treatment of lupus. I thought steriods and drugs that suppress the immune system make treatment much slower. I don't really want to worry about my eyesight with plaq either. Although I have heard many on this forum have been helped by plaquanil but that wasn't the case for me. I ended up with a stevens/johnson reaction from it last year and was in the hospital for a week.

Hydroxychloroquine is a Quinine-like medication that is easier to tolerate than the Quinine Sulfate, though Quinine Sulfate may be more effective. Side effects of clindamycin that make it hard to tolerate include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and allergic-type reactions. How long to treat patients with Lyme remains an issue of controversy. With traditional antibiotic therapy, lasting 2-4 weeks, 10-20% of patients will have ongoing symptoms including fatigue, joint. For example doxycycline seem to be working better when ph was higher. Following, adjustment of ph level can cause effective treatment of plaquenil with lyme disease. The problem with plaquenil is that it can cause irritation of the bowel.

I learned that some people simply do not have a specific thing in their bodies to tolerate that drug and I am one of them. i am taking plaquenil with biaxin and I have to say for the firs time in a long time I have hope The herx is not great but that is from the biaxin or the combo not from just plaquenil. It took several months for me to recover from that.

  3. Hi Chris, welcome to this forum. Of course it is hard to say what the cause is of the increase of symptoms. But I remember I was also feeling a bit worse in the first weeks after I had started taking clarithromycin and hydroxychloroquine.

I was just prescribed plaquenil to treat the cyst form of lyme. The usage of the drug says it is to suppress the immune system in the treatment of lupus. Why would you want to do this if you have lyme. I thought steriods and drugs that suppress the immune system make treatment much slower. I am reluctant to take it. I take both minocycline and plaquenil. I tried weening myself off the plaquenil, but, couldn't take the pain. I've only been on the mino since February. But, so far I've had more good days than bad. And, that's a great thing. This time last year I believed my active days were over. I wasn't able to get out of bed for more than an hour at a time. Lori, I'm not medically trained, but here's what I find on the internet for your consideration Plaquenil is a drug used to treat malaria and also in autoimmune conditions such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. The references I have found as to using it in Lyme treatment combine Plaquenil with another medication at the same time.

The Case of Bitemporal Visual Field Defects - American. Since bitemporal hemianopic defects may result from a refractive blind spot correlating to the ectatic fundus, these defects may often be reduced with myopic correction. 4 In contrast to glaucomatous or chiasmal visual field defects, the addition of a small myopic correction 1-2 D can improve the visual field defects of tilted disc syndrome.
